Empirical mode decomposition for seismic time-frequency analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Time-frequency analysis plays a significant role in seismic data processing and interpretation. Complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition decomposes a seismic signal into a sum of oscillatory components, with guaranteed positive and smoothly varying instantaneous frequencies. Analysis on synthetic and real data demonstrates that this method promises higher spectral-spatial resolution than the short-time Fourier transform or wavelet transform. Application on field data thus offers the potential of highlighting subtle geologic structures that might otherwise escape unnoticed.

Empirical mode decomposition based time-frequency attributes
This paper describes a new technique, called the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), that allows the decomposition of one-dimensional signals into intrinsic oscillatory modes. The components, called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), allow the calculation of a meaningful multicomponent instantaneous frequency. Applied to a seismic trace, the EMD allows us to study the di erent intrinsic oscillato...
متن کاملApplications of the synchrosqueezing transform in seismic time-frequency analysis
Time-frequency representation of seismic signals provides a source of information that is usually hidden in the Fourier spectrum. The short-time Fourier transform and the wavelet transform are the principal approaches to simultaneously decompose a signal into time and frequency components. Known limitations, such as trade-offs between time and frequency resolution, may be overcome by alternativ...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...
متن کاملEmpirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation
This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system. In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...
متن کاملSynchrosqueezing-based Transform and its Application in Seismic Data Analysis
Seismic waves are non-stationary due to its propagation through the earth. Time-frequency transforms are suitable tools for analyzing non-stationary seismic signals. Spectral decomposition can reveal the non-stationary characteristics which cannot be easily observed in the time or frequency representation alone. Various types of spectral decomposition methods have been introduced by some resear...
